Slight discomfort: Usually you get undressed from the waist down and lay down on a table with stirrups for your heels. A long, skinny, lubricated ultrasound transducer is inserted into the vagina by the technician. Once it is in the tech will move it from place to place, taking pictures of the uterus, ovaries and other pelvic structures. When everything has been seen and recorded, the transducer is removed.
