Tricky: yes. and really careful and detailed particular exercise techniques can HELP overcome it. Stress on a bent area tends to accentuate the bend, but with properly applied exercise COUNTER to the bend, often it gets better.

No: You can certainly injure your back lifting something, but scoliosis itself is not caused or worsened by lifting something heavy.
