May need a different: amoxicillin can fail to treat strep 15% of the time. See your doctor again and they may want to switch the antibiotic

Yes: Yes, it is the most common antibiotic prescribed for strep throat, so theoretically if he's already on it, it should take care of the strep throat as well. If he is not showing signs of improvement with the strep throat in 48-72 hours however, he may need a cephalosporin like cefpodoxime or cefdinir which you could speak with your child's physician about. Normally yes: IF on the antibiotic when he acguired Strep I would suspectantibithe infection is resistant to the antibiotic and a new antibiotic should be given. I hope he feels better soon.
