Dental infection: There is no real answer to this. Toothaches can be caused by thing other than something that is an infection that will spread. Toothaches can be caused from cracked teeth, deep decay, or gum disease. All of these typically don't cause an infection that spreads throughout the body. However some patients have these things cause huge infections that spread throughout the body. Go see a dentist

Why wait ?: If an infection breaks into your bloodstream and starts to spread, you'll need more than just dental care. If and when that might happen is unknown and cannot be given a finite time frame. Don't gamble, see a dentist now.

Varies: There is no specific time frame for this. It depends on the state of your immune system, what the infecting organism is and what else is going on medically. One thing is certain, however: delay in getting treatment just makes things worse. Get to a dentist ASAP!

Seek care ASAP: Regardless, waiting for the condition to get worse is not only costly but can be life threatening. Food and water gets through the mouth first before it gets to the digestive system and to the blood stream that circulates it in every cell of the body. Prevention is still the best medication and if there's already an existing condition, have it treated right at initial stage.

Life-Threatening: Just a reminder, if bacteria are present long enough and in large enough numbers the spreading dental infection can be life-threatening. See your dentist today for evaluation, diagnosis and treatment.
