Can you take cipro (ciprofloxacin) for a tooth ache?

If you need it..: Cipro (ciprofloxacin) is an antibiotic and could be used for a toothache, like any other antibiotic. But...Do you need the antibiotic. If you just have a hole that is causing pain then you just need to get the hole fixed. The problem that people are having today is that many docs used to just give antibiotics for any reason. Now people are getting poorer results when they are needed. Choose your useage wisely.

Maybe: Cipro (ciprofloxacin) is an antibiotic not a pain med. If your tooth ache is being caused by an infection it may help but is not the antibiotic of choice for oral infections. Best thing to do is see a dentist to find the cause.

Self-medicating?: I understand wanting to save yourself from fees and time. I do. However you are assuming there is an infection associated with the tooth ache. There may not be an infection. I do recommend seeing a dentist who can determine the cause of the tooth ache. Taking an antibiotic without an infection may make your body more resistant to Cipro (ciprofloxacin) in the future.
