A member asked:

My brain mri says, "incidental note is made of a benign anatomic variant megacisterna magna." what does this really mean? my pcm is ortho :(

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Anatomic variant: MRI is an amazing test with the details it reveals. Frequently though the radiologist will remark on something normal that is more unusual (an normal variant). In general, these findings are not things that lead to symptoms. A mega cisterna magna just means that a normal cerebrospinal fluid space in the brain where the spinal cord exits the skull is even bigger (mega) than usual. No worries
