A member asked:

I did some blood work and got hgb a1c = 5.8 && hdl = 39. do i have pre diabetes? i am athletic and eat pretty well. what to do? thanks

Doesn't appear so: While the HDL appears OK, the HgBA1C is in non-diabetic range. If you are truly concerned about pre-diabetes, there are some other tests to reassure you including a fasting glucose level in conjunction with a C-Peptide level (which is the body's precursor for Insulin), or a regular Insulin level, as well as a fructosamine level. Should these all be normal, no worries! Increase exercise for HDL.
