The main job: of ultrasound in this clinical situation is to exclude an intrauterine pregnancy. However, ectopic pregnancies can often be directly visualized. But the problem here is that ultrasound is a dynamic, real-time, operator dependent study. If the tech sees an abnormality, they will take a picture. If they don't, there won't likely be a serendipitous definitive image showing an ectopic.

Request Review: Ultrasounds are a dynamic test, not just a static test. The technician learns a lot about what's going on with the various movements of the ultrasound probe. Many of the readings may be passed on to the physician radiologist for the final reading. It may be worth having another doctor read the films/pictures, but more than likely, you should consider a different site for a repeat ultrasound.
