Move the leg: Try rotating your thigh in and out in a twisting motion. Usually people with back pain can move the hip and twist it without too much trouble. Arthritic hips have a hard time rotating or twisting.

Yes And no: I would recommend that you work closely with the physical therapist. If you had prior back pain you could make it worse.
