Cystitis: The presence of leukocytes indicates cystitis or inflammation of the bladder. This is usually caused by a UTI which can be present despite negative nitrites. Low back pain, urinary urgency & frequency, painful urination may occur. Caffeine, alcohol, spicy foods, acidic foods (citrus fruits, tomatoes) may worsen the symptoms. Less likely causes would include interstitial cystitis or tuberculosis.
