A member asked:

I took a uti test. urine shows leukocytes but no nitrites. can bv cause that to happen? i have burning in vaginal opening as well

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: Assuming the specimen was obtained by peeing in a cup, and not with a catheter, it is very common for Leukocytes (white blood or "pus" cells) to be washed into the cup from vaginal secretions. This can happen with or without a vaginal infection. Nitrites result from bacterial metabolism of normal nitrates in the urine, and indicate possibility of urinary infection.
