Anoscopy: An anoscope is a round piece of clear plastic that's used to look at the anus and first part of the rectum, think of it like the anal version of a vaginal speculum. It's used to look for diseases of the anus and rectum like hemorrhoids, anal fissures, and rectal cancers. Anoscopy is only able to look a few inches into the rectum. If you are having anal pain or bleeding it is an appropriate test.

Anal canal: • Anoscopy.is examintion of the distal part of the colorectal system. A short, rigid, hollow tube (anoscope) is used to look at the last 2 in. (5 cm) of the distal colon (anal canal) .This is used to look for inflammatory and occassional malignant lesions of the anal region just above the rectal sphincter. A proctoscope is occassionally used to examine up to 10 inches above the sphincter.
