Nighttime coughing: If your son only coughs at night when he's lying flat, he might have acid reflux. This is because acid is more likely to go up into the esophagus when you're lying flat, and stimulate your cough reflex. The other possibility might be a sinusitis with post-nasal drip. Does he cough during the day? If he's otherwise healthy without congestion, your doctor may suggest an antacid to treat GERD.
