After cardiac arrest: The Drs will gradually re-warm him over the next couple of days. By about 72 hrs we usually start to decrease the meds and try to wake him. A good sign will be if he can open his eyes to voice at that time, once all meds are worn off. If he is not opening eyes once off the meds for 48 h or so, that may mean there is significant brain damage. You will hopefully know more within a few days
