Loud heartbeat: Many times a "loud heartbeat" at bedtime may be indicative of hypertension. Are you having incresed salt content in your diet near bedtime? Sometimes alcohol consumption or foods high in sodium will increase your blood pressure at bedtime causing these symptoms.

Get evaluated: If your pcp has cleared you of any medical problems like hypertension or hyperthyroidism etc, you may need a psychiatric consult to rule out anxiety/mood disorder.
