How much is too much: Melatonin is a very safe herbal, and depending on size/age, kids can routinely take up to 5-10 mg. Studies show a sleep response in adults with as little as 0.5 mg, but testing has been done with up to 1000mg without significant side effects. Expect to see exaggerated effects of somnolence with high doses. To be safe, always call Poison Control (800) 222-1222 with amount of overdose for guidance.
