Generally safe: Melatonin is a hormone found naturally in the body that seems to exert effect on the body's clock. It is used for jet lag, shift-work disorder, and insomnia. It has been tried for MANY other things: Alzheimer's, depression, headaches, fibromyalgia, and cancer. Reported rare side effects include headache, dizziness, irritability and daytime sleepiness. It's safety in breast-feeding is not known.
