2 Days Back Pain: Use ice over heat for acute (new) areas of pain. For many folks, heat aggravates the already acutely inflammed body part. Topical medications like diclofenac gel (dull, ache, throbbing pain) or lidocaine gel (burn, stab, sharp, pins & needles etc.) may be beneficial for your acute symptoms.
