A member asked:

I'm getting a hida scan w/ cck on tuesday. what are the rules of physical contact with my 3 month old and 3 yr old afterwards? since it's radioactive?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Reduced contact: A HIDA scan uses technetium-99 which has a half life of 6 hours. There are a few precautions that you should take if you are breast feeding your 3 month-old. Since you will want to pump and dump your breast milk for 24 hours after, you will want to store a days supply of milk ahead of time. You will also need to reduce your contact with both kids for 1 day, so no co-sleeping us using a sling.
