A member asked:

26 years old. pet scan showed decreased glucose utilization in the medial temporal lobe consistent with alzheimers. could it be anything else?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Almost anything else: At age 26, the diagnosis is almost certainly not Alzheimer's disease (AD). AD is *not* diagnosed by PET scan. Neuropsychological testing, with special attention to aspects of cognition and personality, may be more useful to help understand the nature of symptoms that caused you to undergo PET scanning in the first place.
