Can a pseudodementia cause brain atrophy? my mother 54 years old about 6 years now she has all the early symptoms of altzhaimer exept of place confussion also has depression . mri normal but pet scan showed atrophy of parietal and temporal lobes?

She needs to see a neurologist for co-relation of her signs and symptoms with the PET scan findings- which sometimes do not co-relate. wish her well

PET Scan reveals decreased METABOLISM in the parietal and temporal areas of the brain, and this would correlate with localized atrophy. The findings do not represent "pseudodementia" and are rather consistent with Alzheimer's Disease. Depression is often an early sign of dementia. See an experienced neurologist and get this managed ASAP.
