TMJ dysfunction: You should rest the joint by eating soft food. It is possible to eat a well-balanced diet of soft foods with flavor and health benefits. The closed jaw lock is very frightening, but it is treatable condition. See Orofacial Pain specialist for consultation.

TMJ: A soft food diet can help your symptoms, but you need to treat the cause or your symptoms will return. Most TMJ dysfunction is caused by bruxism (chronic teeth grinding and/or clenching), or a bad bite. Another cause is sleep apnea. If a soft diet is the only suggested treatment, make an appointment with a dentist experienced in treating TMJ dysfunction and who is knowledgeable about sleep apnea.
