TMJ: Tell your parents and your orthodontist about your locked jaw and your pain. Your problem does sound like a TMJ problem and an evaluation is needed to k ow for certain.

TMD: Everyone has a TMJ. TMD is a term used to describe dysfunction with your TMJ. Although you say you don't think that is your issue, it sure sounds like it from your symptoms. Be sure to let your orthodontist know what is going on as that treatment could be a contributing factor if you never had symptoms before you got braces. Also discuss it with your parents and general dentist to figure it out.

TMJ: A "locked Jaw" is a TMJ problem. See a TMJ expert to help evaluate and treat your problem. A TMJ expert can be general dentist, an oral surgeon, prosthodontist, orofacial pain specialist. Ask your physician, dentist or dental society for a recommendation.
