TMD : TMJ problems like popping will not go way without treatment. The specialist will do an exam that may include X-ray, impressions, bite analysis, and sometimes MRI. In the meantime eat a soft diet, avoid opening wide when yelling or yawning, otc pain medications if needed. Clenching and grinding your teeth can make things worse.

tmjoint dysfunction: Inflammation associated with acute joint dysfunction can cause lower jaw to be displaced. Whether temporary or permanent has to be determined by examination. Until you see Dental specialist don't chew anything harder than made potatoes or scrambled eggs, don't grind or clench, Ibuprofen (as per package directions) may act as anti-inflammatory. May need services of both Orthodontist & Oral Surgeon.
