A few ideas: Self treat with soft diet, jaw exercises, massage, heat/cold, OTC pain meds. Avoid excessive gum chewing. Avoid clenching or grinding teeth. Avoid destructive habits like "popping" your jaw, cracking nuts with your teeth, etc.
