Oval lumps >1/2 inch: Lymph nodes are normally present in neck but may enlarge from infections, tumors(lymphoma, metastatic cancers) or without known cause. May or may not be painful, and be felt one or both sides of the neck, usually when larger than 1/4 inch. If growing, should consult your physician to look for and treat underlying cause. Sometimes hard to distinguish from the carotid artery - which pulsates.
