What cause sharp needle like pain in the feet making it difficult to walk and very painful to walk when it strikes?

Nerve issue: Many conditions can cause sharp, needle like pain in feet. Diabetes related nerve damage is a leading cause. Lower back pain/spine related conditions such as a bulging disc can also that. Nerve entrapment in the ankle, called tarsal tunnel syndrome, can lead to those symptoms, but is not usually on both feet.
