Not foods: If the main concern is developing type ii diabetes, then choice of foods is not nearly so critical as finding some sort of physical exercise that you really enjoy and doing it frequently, intensely, and regularly. Get with your physician about this -- and don't forget to have fun!

ADA diet: In general, eat more fruits and vegetables, non-starchy vegetables (broccoli, grean beans), whole grains over processed foods, dry beans, fish 2x/week, lean meats (things end with "loin"), non-fat dairy and as always, lots and lots of water.
