Several days: It may take several days before you get relief from the pain. If the pain does not improve significantly prior to completing the antibiotics then you should probably be checked again to be sure the infection has completely cleared. If you pain is getting worse or you are running fevers then you should be rechecked sooner. It is not unusual for IV antibiotics to be needed for a kidney infection.
