Tricky problem.: Many women have utis after intercourse. Bacteria gets pushed up into the urethra and bladder. You may help prevent this by urinating after you have sex, and drinking a lot of water. Antibiotics tend to predispose us to yeast infections. If the vagina is acidic (low ph), you will tend to get fewer yeast infections - and will be less likely to get bacterial vaginosis. Ask your doc about boric acid!

Frequent UTI's: To prevent a UTI after intercourse, try to go to the bathroom and urinate as soon as possible after having sex. Woman get more uti's than men due to their having a shorter urethra make a UTI easier to acquire. Urinating after sex has the urine flush away any bacteria and will prevent them from getting to your bladder, avoiding a uti. Good luck.

See below: Take a prophylactic antibiotic dose before intercourse. Septra (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) 80/400 mg or Norfloxacin 200 mg before intercourse are often used to prevent honeymoon cystitis. Use high dose probiotic like vsl#3. With over 100 billion probiotic per capsule.
