That depends: That depends on what is actually going on. Hardened plaque is called calculus. This can be easily removed by the dentist and the tooth returned to normal. The beginning of a cavity can also look like a white spot. This is harder to resolve and may require a filling. Your son needs an exam by a pediatric dentist to determine what is going on and how to solve this problem.
