Lymph nodes, lipomas: A lipoma is in the skin, and looks like a bulge in the skin itself. An enlarged lymph node is usually under the skin and its possible to move the surface of the skin separate from the underlying lymph node. Benign lymph nodes can be either softer or a bit more firm than a lipoma, If a lymph node is very hard or unyielding, or tethered under the skin, be sure to get it checked out.
