Water breaking: You should call you physician when this happens. Most of us have answering services even after hours and on weekends. With the potential for bad weather and bad roads both for the patient and physician. If I am in the hospital and the roads are icy, I would prefer to know you're en route than to find out an hour later once I've made the drive back home. Call, call, communicate and call.

Water breaks: When your water breaks then you head to the hospital. The water breaking is not an emergency so one does not need to rush but there is no reason to delay either. Just call a ride and head in for evaluation.
