Knee joint effusion: Trauma? overuse? had it before?red? tender? immobility ? If no redness tenderness or immobility try rest, ice, elevate, NSAIDS if not allergic. f/u with doctor if does not improve in 72 hours. If any redness/immobility/pain need to see a doctor within 24 hours may be infection with staph, lyme, gout, fracture may need antibiotics, xray or other treatment(colchicine/indocin for gout).
