Depends: Your need for surgery will depend on the stability and/or damage under your knee cap. If this is your first patella dislocation vs the latest ofmor, that could change things as well. The effusion or fluid in the knee is just a symptom of the dislocation. Its really the patella that needs to be evaluated.
