Good test: Mri does see the back of the knee and some problems, such as popliteal cysts, can cause pain there. The posterior horns of the menisci are also at the back of the knee and MRI can assess meniscal problems very well. For best results, make sure a radiologist with fellowship training in musculoskeletal imaging is interpreting the study.
