Viral synd vs flu: This is the typical scenario for an upper respiratory infection caused by a virus or even actual influenza, somewhat depending on how high the fever was. Would not be atypical for fever to wax and wane. You might have been a candidate for Tamiflu or anti-influenza medication if seen early, but now, after 48 hours, too late. Continue rest, fluids, Tylenol (acetaminophen) for fever. Good wishes:)

Usually...: Most of the time this type of symptoms are typical of a upper viral upper respiratory tract infection. This goes away on its own and may last 7-10 days. Treatment recommended is rest, plenty of fluids, and analgesics for pain and/or fever. If you start feeling worse then you would need to see your doctor for exam and treatment as necessary.
