Need nutrients: In order for your muscles to contract and relax they need nutrients- such as sodium, potassium and calcium. A healthy diet should provide these and other nutrients that your muscles need to grow or to repair themselves. Adequate protein in the diet from a variety of sources helps muscles achieve these functions.
