Anovulatory periods: are the most likely cause. When girls first start to menstruate, they do not ovulate every month, and the lining of the uterus has been gradually building for some time due to the effects of estrogen. If iperiods are heavy, I would recommend consulting her doctor who may suggest a short period of hormone replacement with Progestone or birth control pills. May also check labs.
