Can hypnogocic jerks be brought on by anxiety?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Anxiety causes an: overall tightening of muscles in some, because of chronic stress hormones (most notably adrenaline) creating normetabolites that take time to release. During the hypnogogic state, these muscles can seemingly violently discharge some of this tension. This is known as a myoclonic discharge and is harmless, except for temporary sleep interruption. Try some yoga just before bed and lower stress.
