See answer: Most achilles and soleus injuries should appear on an MRI. I am not aware of investigational surgery being done for these injuries. Instead, these injuries are typically treated with initial immobilization followed by physical therapy to restore strength and range of motion. For actual tears, of course, surgery would be considered.
