A member asked:

I'm having peroneal and achilles surgery. my mri shows lots of swelling, but no tear. is the mri accurate, and could tears still be present?

MRI/Achilles: MRIs sre quite accurate in visualizing tears. Certainly small tears within the tendon may be missed but major tears would be seen.

NO TEARS ANYWHERE?: Humm...there are no tears in either tendon, just swelling. Well, I have had instances, more so in the early days of foot/ankle MRI, where things weren't detected, but the scanners are better today. Talk w/ your surgeon-will physical therapy or bracing help before doing surgery? What are the goals of surgery; what is being done?
