Cholesterol: A total cholesterol level of greater than 225 is considered high. There are medications that can be used based on what forms of lipids are elevated. Diet and exercise will also help. A level of 1000 is very high though you don't mention which form it is. Yes high cholesterol is a risk factor for a heart attack. Please have your husband see his doctor.

Cholesterol: That is real high. The doctor will likely order a statin drug for him to lower his cholesterol. A very low fat diet will also be necessary.
