Can not hurt: Persistent hoarseness for over 1 year, assuming you did not have a "raspy" voice before is certainly cause enough to be re-evaluated by an ENT dr. Best wishes to you.

Chronic hoarseness: Do u smoke or use smokeless tobacco? Do u often strain your voice by shouting or singing loudly? R u exposed to irritating smoke/fumes/ irritants. May be chronic irritation or inflammation from one of the above; may be aspiration of gastric reflux; may be vocal strain. Provide ENT with thorough history including above info.
