Fluoride important: You can get by with plain water for your child. But, vitamins with Fluoride are very important. You can get the liquid vitamins and drop some in the water and as they get older...Let them suck on the eyedropper. That is what we did with our kids. But save your $$$ and use tap water unless you know your water is bad or you are on well water. Then..Get your water tested.

Without fluoride: Fluoride (fl) does not start to help protect the teeth until they have started to erupt into the mouth, so she doesn't need fl until the first tooth erupts. After that it depends on whether or not she is drinking tap water that has fl or is taking a vitamin with fl. If she is getting fl from either of these other sources then she does not need extra.

Discuss: Discuss using water with your childs pediatrician. Most of the time if your baby is getting adequate nutrition through formula or breastfeeding they shouldnt need extra water. With regards to the fluoride, supplementation is done based on the amount of Fluoride in your water. This should be discussed with your childs pediatrician or local dentist. Supplementation when needed usually begins at 6 mo.
