A member asked:

Does instant dental implant also require an extraction?

Not necessarily: If there is a tooth present and that tooth is being replaced with a dental implant, then yes the extraction of that tooth will be required. If you have a missing tooth at that site then it is unlikely that a tooth will need to be extracted.

Depends. : Immediate implants can be placed in a site where the tooth was just extracted or placed in a space where a tooth has been missing fro a while.

Yes: An implant is placed into an area where a tooth was extracted.

If tooth is there: A dental implant can go in to a space already created by a missing tooth, or if the tooth is still there and requires extraction, the extraction is part of the process.

Depends..: What are they trying to replace. If the tooth is not already missing and they are doing an implant to replace a "bad" tooth then the tooth needs to be extracted regardless of it being an instant implant or a two stage one.

Depends : An implant is not a replacement for a tooth, it is a replacement for a tooth root. If you are missing teeth due to cavities, trauma or other disease and the tooth is missing entirely (root also), then no extraction is necessary. If you have a tooth that is unhealthy and will be replaced then it would be extracted before you could receive a dental implant with or without a crown.

No...: If the tooth is already missing the dentist would evaluate the quality and quantity of the jaw bone to determine if the dental implant can be done.

Get evaluated: You need to have an open space to have an implant placed, either by a missing tooth or an extraction.

No: An instant or "Immediate Dental Implant" doesn't require an extraction, just a site to place it in. Either in a place where an adult tooth never developed, in a healed extraction site or in a fresh extraction site. All are possibilities!

Yes: An immediate implant means that where and when the tooth is extracted, an implant is placed immediately. Otherwise, it is not an immediate implant.
