Yes: Definitely, especially if the child is not vaccinated against whooping cough (also called pertussis). The symptoms can be a runny nose, fever, diarrhea and a very distinctive cough (hence the name "whooping cough.") the "whooping" sound is heard on inhalation. If in doubt, see your pediatrician/family physician, since pertussis is a very contagious disease and needs to be treated right away.

Yes: Fever and a cough that is constant are symptoms another symptom is the classic whoop. Any one can get whooping cough, ie pertussis. An unimmunized person is extremely susceptible to it. An immunized 3 year old is not very likely to get the infection.
