See below: First off post viral coughs can last up to 3 weeks. Next albuterol is not a "cold" medication but rather a reliever medication for asthma. As colds are a major trigger point for an asthma exacerbation it is frequently prescribed. You should check with your doctor on this as your son made need additional or alternative therapies.
