Prolonged coughing: Significant coughing for 3 weeks is unusual for a "viral" illness. Sinus infection, asthma, and tracheobronchitis by mycoplasma infection are partial list of possibilities. I would suggest to get an another opinion instead of trying otc cough medicine.

Follow up: Relieving any congestion with saline and children's dimetapp at night to reduce post nasal drip may help. It is important to determine the cause. If her lungs sound good, it may be a sinus infection and post nasal drip. A virtual appt is available.
