Controversial: Prophylactic antiobiotic use after molar removal may be unnecessary for the otherwise healthy patient. There is a good study (author poeschl), comparing amox/clavulonate, clindamycin, and no antibiotics. No differences in the groups. It was concluded that antiobiotics after molar resection does not change the outcome with regard to less pain, wound healing, inflammatory changes, mouth openening.

Depends : Upon the reason for extraction. If infected and high risk of residual transmission into surrounding bony socket (osteomyelitis), i would prescribe prophylactic antibiotics after surgery. If you are medically healthy and risk of osteomyelitis us low, I do not prescribe antibiotics. You can always disregard your doctor's recommendation, but do so at your own risk.

Yes: Unless you develop a post op infection, a healthy person rarely needs antibiotics for an extraction!
